Service Activities for Families: Fifth Grade
Fifth graders are learning about covenant and God's promise to love and protect his people.
These activities will remind family members that we also make a promise to God---to love him and do what he asks of us by looking out for the needs of others.
- World Food Day is October 16th. Your family can make and distribute flyers for the neighborhood or parish announcing the collection of non-perishable food items on October 16th. Organize a collection and delivery to a parish or community food pantry.
- There may be people in your neighborhood or parish who are unable to do simple tasks around the house because of age or illness. Help your child organize a group of workers made up of their friends, family members, scouts or classmates and offer to help with some chores. The workers can help rake leaves, mow lawns, trim bushes, sweep out garages, take out trash, clean gutters or wash outside windows. It would be nice to pack a picnic basket of goodies like water, juice, fruit and cookies for the helpers as they do their work. This activity can help children see how good it feels to do kind deeds for others.
