Christ Jesus, the Way
Home and Family
Service Activities for Families: Seventh Grade
In the seventh grade, your child learns about Jesus Christ as God’s Son and as the Giver of Life to the whole world. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
These activities will show the young people how their efforts can help others.
- The holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, can be lonely times for older people whose families and friends may be miles away or gone. This is a good time to share the blessings of your family. Make gift baskets for older people in the parish or in your community. First, identify the recipients of these gift baskets. You might call a local nursing home or center to obtain permission to give out gift baskets and to find out about special needs the older people may have. Then decide what you will include, such as personal items (for example, combs, brushes, toothpaste, shampoo), food, books, clothing, and so on. You might want to include letters and cards written by family members. Arrange for a time to deliver the baskets.
- There may be people in your neighborhood or parish who are unable to do simple tasks around the house because of age or illness. Organize a group of workers made up of friends, family members, and parishioners and offer to help with some of these chores. The workers might help raking leaves, mowing lawns, washing windows, taking out trash, cleaning kitchens, and so on. There may be some minor repairs that need to be done.
