1. Last year Shannon's parents got her a private line. Now she spends hours on the phone every night. Shannon does her homework while on the phone. She picks up the receiver at 3:30 pm and doesn't hang it up until midnight, except for half an hour for dinner.

Chantal wants to be a news reporter because she loves passing information. If she hears a secret in her morning English class, the whole school knows by lunchtime. Once, Chantal was accused of being a nasty gossiper, but her response was simple, “Not everyone is cut out for such an intense profession.”

Kevin seems glued to his computer monitor. He darts in and out of chat rooms, e-mails friends, and surfs the Web for hours at a time. In fact, Kevin decided to drop out of soccer and his youth group so that he could spend more time on-line.

Ian doesn't go anywhere without his headphones over his ears. Family members compete with music when they try to talk to him. He even falls asleep listening to his favorite deejay. To Ian, life would be perfect if he didn't have to remove his plugs at church and at school.
